What is the Difference Between Traditional Tae Kwon Do and Olympic Sport Tae Kwon Do?Tae Kwon Do in its original form is known as Traditional Tae Kwon Do. It includes the powerful and elaborate kicks that most people are familiar with, but it also implements a wide array of hand technique, weapons and throws stripped from the modern sport version of Tae Kwon Do. The Olympic Sport form, lacking the throws and punches, is no longer a full martial art or a practical means of self-defense. Tae Kwon Do has become popular in the sports arena and has been included as an Olympic sport. The sport form takes the emphasis off developing self-control and integrity and puts the focus on earning trophies. We do attend tournaments but they are secondary in importance to traditional training. |
